About Bath Calculator

Free, transparent bathroom remodel cost estimates, built so you can walk into every contractor conversation knowing what a fair price looks like.

Bath Calculator is a free tool for estimating what a bathroom remodel will cost before you talk to a contractor. Tell it about your room, the scope of the job, the finishes you want, and where you live, and it shows a realistic price range with a line-by-line breakdown of where the money goes.

We are not a remodeling company, and we don’t do construction work. Our job is to help you set a budget, compare bids with confidence, and avoid the surprises that blow up most remodeling budgets. When you’re ready for real quotes, we can connect you with licensed local pros through our partner network.

Who's behind Bath Calculator

Jason Keeley, founder of Bath Calculator

Jason Keeley, founder

Bath Calculator was founded by Jason Keeley, a serious DIY homeowner who has tackled numerous home renovation projects over the last 25 years. That hands-on experience shaped how the calculator works: it prices a remodel the way a homeowner actually plans one, part by part, with room for the surprises that show up once the old tile comes off.

The idea is simple. Most people start a bathroom project with no idea what it should cost, and a contractor's quote is hard to judge without something to compare it to. Bath Calculator gives you that baseline in a couple of minutes, with the math shown instead of hidden behind a sign-up form.

How our estimates work

Every estimate comes from the same cost model, and the numbers in our articles come from it too, so the site never contradicts itself. Here is how it works.

  1. We break the job into parts. A remodel is priced as separate pieces: labor and prep, demolition, the shower or tub, floors and wall tile, the vanity and countertop, the toilet and fixtures, extras like lighting or a new window, moved plumbing, and permits.
  2. We price each part as installed. Each piece carries a national average installed cost, meaning materials plus labor, at three finish levels: budget, midrange, and high-end. Items that scale with room size, like flooring and tile, are priced per square foot.
  3. We adjust for where you live. Labor is often half the bill or more, and it varies a lot by region. A state-level cost index moves the estimate up or down to match local rates.
  4. We show a range, not a single number. Real bids for the same job routinely differ by 15% or more, so the calculator shows a low-to-high range plus a separate contingency for problems hidden behind walls.
  5. We check our work. We compare the model’s results against published industry benchmarks, including Remodeling magazine’s annual Cost vs. Value Report, and review every price once a year.

An estimate is a planning tool, not a quote. Your home, your contractor, and what’s behind the tile will decide the final price, which is why we always recommend getting two or three written bids.

Our editorial standards

Accuracy and updates

Our pricing is reviewed every year, and articles that cite costs are updated to match. If you think a number is wrong for your area, tell us. Reader feedback is one of the ways we catch regional differences the averages miss.

Independence

Estimates come from the cost model, never from partners. No company can pay to change a price range, appear in an estimate, or rank higher in our guides.

Plain language

We write for homeowners, not contractors. When a term matters, like the difference between a refresh and a gut remodel, we explain it where it comes up.

How we make money

Bath Calculator is free to use, with no sign-up required. We keep it that way through display advertising and affiliate partnerships. If you request contractor quotes through our partner Modernize, buy products through our Amazon links, or sign up with a financial partner like Chase, Discover, or Rakuten, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, Bath Calculator earns from qualifying purchases.

Those relationships never change what the calculator shows. See our privacy policy for how we handle data.
