Planning a bathroom remodel? Our free bathroom remodel budget spreadsheet helps you estimate costs, set a realistic budget, compare contractor bids, track every payment, and keep the project on schedule, all in one file. It works in Excel, Google Sheets, and Apple Numbers.

Why use a bathroom remodel budget spreadsheet?
Bathroom remodels are full of moving parts: a contractor, a plumber, tile, fixtures, permits, and the surprises that turn up once the old floor comes out. Without a plan, small overruns add up fast. A budget spreadsheet keeps every number in one place, so you can:
- Set a realistic budget before you talk to contractors, including a contingency for hidden problems.
- Spot overpriced bids by comparing quotes with a data-based estimate.
- Track spending as you go and see right away when a category runs over.
- Plan cash flow with a payment schedule and financing comparison.
- Stay organized with a timeline and a shopping list for every fixture and material.
What’s inside
| Tab | What it does |
|---|---|
| Estimate | Choose your state, room size, scope, finishes, and fixtures to get a cost breakdown by category, a low-to-high range, contingency, and cost per square foot. |
| Budget Tracker | Set your budget and log quotes and payments. Each category shows estimated, quoted, spent, and remaining, and overruns turn red. |
| Bids | Compare three contractors side by side on price, what’s included, timeline, warranty, license, insurance, and references. |
| Timeline | Plan 16 phases from bids and permits through tile, fixtures, and final inspection. Dates roll forward from your start date. |
| Payments & Financing | Map out milestone payments and compare a personal loan, HELOC, 0% card, and contractor financing with monthly payments calculated. |
| Shopping List | Track materials and fixtures with quantities, prices, order-by dates, delivery status, and links to shop. |
| Start Here | Quick instructions, a color key, and links to our free calculators. |
Matches our online calculator
The Estimate tab is built on the same cost model as the bathroom remodel cost calculator on our homepage, so the numbers match. For example, a typical 5 × 8 hall bath with a standard midrange remodel comes to about $14,000, with a range of about $11,900 to $16,100. Change your state and the estimate adjusts for local labor and material costs, the same way our bathroom remodel cost by state guide does.
How to open it
- Excel: download the file and open it. Yellow cells with blue text are the ones you edit.
- Google Sheets: upload the file to Google Drive, then right-click it and choose Open with, then Google Sheets.
- Apple Numbers: open the downloaded file in Numbers. Formulas and most formatting carry over.
Tips for staying on budget
- Keep the existing layout. Moving a toilet, shower, or sink drain is one of the fastest ways to add thousands.
- Order special-order items early, since vanities, glass doors, and tile can take weeks to arrive.
- Get at least three written bids for the same scope, and make sure each lists what’s included.
- Don’t spend the contingency on upgrades until the walls are closed up.
- Pay by milestone, not all upfront, and keep a record of every payment in the tracker.

Frequently asked questions
Is the bathroom remodel budget spreadsheet free?
Yes. The spreadsheet is completely free to download and use, with no sign-up or email required.
Does it work in Google Sheets?
Yes. Upload the .xlsx file to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets, or use File, then Import, in an existing sheet. The dropdowns and formulas carry over.
How accurate is the cost estimate?
The Estimate tab uses the same cost model as the calculator on our homepage, with 2027 national average prices adjusted by a state cost index. It’s a planning estimate, not a quote, so get written bids from local contractors before you commit.
How much contingency should I budget for a bathroom remodel?
Plan on 10% for cosmetic and standard remodels and 15% for full gut remodels. The spreadsheet adds this automatically to cover problems found behind walls and floors, like water damage or outdated wiring.
Can I change the prices in the spreadsheet?
Yes. Every value in the cost model is listed on the Lists tab, and you can type over your budget, contract price, and shopping list prices with your own numbers.
Estimates in the spreadsheet are national average costs for 2027 planning and are not quotes. Some shopping links in the file are affiliate links, and Bath Calculator may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. See our disclaimer and affiliate disclosure.
